Dr. Luther C Guynes

an accomplished educator, author, administrator, consultant, and lifelong learner whose distinguished career spans more than five decades in higher education, business, engineering, and public service. From humble beginnings in Mississippi to becoming a respected leader in academia and industry, Dr. Guynes has dedicated his life to advancing education, leadership, and personal growth.

Following eight years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, Dr. Guynes pursued higher education with determination and purpose. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Industrial Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Under the mentorship of renowned management scholar Dr. Peter F. Drucker, he later earned a Master’s Degree in Economics and Business Statistics and a Ph.D. in Government Finance and Public Administration from Claremont Graduate University.

Dr. Guynes began his academic journey at San Bernardino Valley College and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, eventually embarking on a remarkable career that included service as a Professor, Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Business, Assistant to the President, Department Chair, Dean, Vice President Consultant to the Regional Chancellor, and Management Consultant. Throughout his career, he has served numerous institutions, including Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, Los Angeles Southwest College, National University, and many others. He currently serves as President of the Los Angeles College of Divinity.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Guynes built a successful career in engineering and technology. He worked as an Engineer Checker for Deutsch Electronics and later as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with TRW Systems. He also founded and served as President of Management Systems & Technology, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in technology systems, engineering, logistics management, business optimization, software systems engineering, technical training, and organizational development.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Guynes has received numerous honors and awards, including the Chancellor’s Award, multiple Outstanding Professor Awards, and the prestigious Meritorious Mast Award from the United States Marine Corps for outstanding service.

As an author and thought leader, Dr. Guynes is known for sharing practical wisdom, leadership insights, and life lessons through his writing. Many of these reflections are captured in his collection of personal philosophies known as “Louisms”—short, memorable nuggets of wisdom that inspire others to pursue excellence, lifelong learning, and purposeful living.

Reflecting on his life’s journey, Dr. Guynes often remarks, “If you ever see a turtle on a fence post, you know somebody put it there,” a humble acknowledgment of the mentors, opportunities, and blessings that have helped shape his path. He also reminds others that “we are fortunate to live in a country that supports, celebrates, and promotes lifelong learning without age limits in the pursuit of higher education, passion, and dreams.”

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Guynes is a devoted family man who treasures time with his six children, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He enjoys playing chess and golf, attending concerts, reading, engaging in thoughtful discussions about philosophy, government, and economics, and sharing a home-cooked meal with family and friends.

Today, Dr. Guynes continues to educate, inspire, and mentor future generations through his writing, leadership, and unwavering commitment to learning. His legacy is defined not only by the positions he has held, but by the countless lives he has influenced along the way.
